King David School Art Curriculum

ART (Kindergarten - 8th Grade)

Art lessons are for all grades. Every grade has Art for one hour each week. The program is designed to make students aware of the various kinds of Art. The students will learn:

  1. Elements of Art- line, shape, color, value, texture, form, space.
  2. Principles of Art-repetition, contrast, pattern, balance
  3. Vocabulary - new words and terms in Art.
  4. Techniques - different techniques will be displayed and experienced.
  5. Self expression - to build self-esteem and to emphasize individuality.
  6. Art History and Appreciation-works of artists from many eras, countries, and cultures will be discussed.
  7. Thematic Units-art will be incorporated into the students’ study of Jewish holidays and traditions
  8. An annual Art Exhibition will be held at the school, where all students will have the opportunity to display their masterpieces.The goal is to create a deeper awareness of the Art that surrounds us, to appreciate it, and to have fun with it.
